How it works
The tool samples the colours along the image’s border to learn what the background looks like, then performs a flood fill from the edges, accepting pixels whose colour is within the sensitivity you set. Holes inside the subject that are not connected to the edge are left alone, which protects white shirts and highlights.
Edge softness blends the boundary over a few pixels so the cut-out does not look jagged when placed on a new background.
Useful for
- Product photos on a white or coloured backdrop
- Logos and signatures scanned on paper
- Headshots against a plain wall
- Graphics that need a transparent background
Limitations
- Busy, patterned or similar-coloured backgrounds will not separate cleanly.
- Hair and fur on a background of a similar colour may be partly removed or partly kept.
- Background areas fully enclosed by the subject (for example, inside a cup handle) are kept unless they touch the edge.
- Images are processed at up to 2,500 pixels on the longest side to keep the tool responsive.
