How to use the Favicon Generator

  1. Upload a square logo, or switch to Letter and type one or two characters.
  2. Adjust the padding, background colour and corner rounding, and check the previews at real sizes.
  3. Download the ZIP with every icon and the web manifest.
  4. Upload the files to your website’s root folder and paste the HTML into the <head> of your pages.

What is a favicon?

A favicon is the small icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks and search results next to your site’s name. Modern sites need a few sizes: a favicon.ico for browsers, a 180 × 180 icon for iPhones and iPads, and 192 and 512 pixel icons for Android and installable web apps.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to SBGeeks or anyone else.

Free to use, with no sign-up, no limits on the number of files and no watermark added.

How it works

Each size is drawn separately with high-quality scaling, so the 16-pixel icon is resampled from the original rather than shrunk from another icon. The favicon.ico file contains the 16, 32 and 48 pixel images in PNG format, which every current browser and Windows since Vista support.

The ZIP includes a site.webmanifest that points to the Android icons; edit the name and colours in it to match your site.

Useful for

  • A new website or landing page
  • Replacing a blurry or missing favicon
  • Icons for an installable web app
  • A quick letter icon for an internal tool

Limitations

  • Detailed logos become unreadable at 16 px; a simplified mark or a single letter works better.
  • Non-square images are centred on a square background.
  • Letter mode uses the fonts installed on your device.

Questions

Do I still need favicon.ico?
It is still the most widely supported option and the one browsers request automatically from your site’s root. Pair it with the PNG and Apple touch icons for best results.
Does a favicon help SEO?
Google shows favicons next to results on mobile, so a clear one can make your listing more recognisable. It does not change rankings by itself. Google asks for a square icon of at least 48 × 48 px.

Install the SBGeeks app

On iPhone or iPad, use Safari:

  1. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  2. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add. The SBGeeks icon appears on your home screen.

On Android, use Chrome:

  1. Tap the three-dot menu at the top right.
  2. Tap Add to Home screen, then Install. (Some phones show Install app instead.)
  3. The SBGeeks icon appears with your other apps.

Not there? Make sure you are not in an Incognito tab, and that the page was opened in Chrome itself, not inside another app.

This page is open inside another app (such as WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram), which cannot install apps.

  1. Tap the menu in the corner and choose Open in browser (Chrome or Safari).
  2. Then tap Install again.

On a computer, use Chrome or Edge: click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install SBGeeks.
