Attributes are the small checkboxes most business owners breeze past during profile setup and never revisit — and they're one of the fields we most consistently find incomplete during our free GBP audits. This checklist covers every major attribute category and why each one earns its place on your profile.
Accessibility Attributes
Wheelchair-accessible entrance, restroom, seating, and parking. Beyond the direct relevance to searchers who need this information, Google has increasingly surfaced accessibility filters prominently in Maps, and an unpopulated field means you're excluded from results when a searcher actively filters for it — not just ranked lower.
Payment Attributes
Every payment method you accept — credit cards, debit, NFC mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay), checks, and cash-only if applicable. This is a low-effort, high-clarity field that removes a common pre-call hesitation, particularly for service categories where customers want to confirm payment flexibility before booking.
Amenity Attributes
Wi-Fi availability, restrooms, outdoor seating, and category-specific amenities. For restaurants and cafes specifically, this category also includes dietary options (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free menu items) — increasingly a filtering criterion searchers use before they ever look at your menu directly.
Service Options
Dine-in, takeout, delivery, curbside pickup, online appointments, on-site services, in-store shopping. These attributes directly determine which service-mode-specific searches you're eligible to appear in — "restaurants with delivery near me" filters specifically on this data.
Health & Safety Attributes
Category-relevant safety and hygiene attributes remain a factor certain searchers filter by, particularly in healthcare, food service, and personal care categories.
Crowd & Planning Attributes
LGBTQ+ friendly, women-led, veteran-led, and similar identity attributes. Where accurate and applicable, these attributes meaningfully influence selection for searchers who specifically value supporting businesses matching these attributes, and they're entirely free to populate.
Category-Specific Attribute Fields
Google surfaces different attribute sets depending on your primary category — a medical practice sees insurance-related attributes, a hotel sees different amenity sets than a restaurant does. Always review your full attribute list after any category change, since Google adds newly relevant fields automatically and they default to unanswered until you go in and populate them.
Why This Category Gets Skipped
Attributes require logging into the GBP dashboard specifically to check boxes — there's no prompt, no notification, no obvious visual cue on your public listing that fields are missing. This is exactly the kind of "invisible until audited" gap our free audit tool is built to surface, and it's a five-minute fix once you know it's incomplete.
How Often to Review This Section
Check your attributes quarterly, and immediately after any category change, since new category-specific fields can appear that weren't previously available. This is a standing quarterly item in our managed profile process for exactly this reason — it's easy to set once and forget entirely.
